A museum commemorating the young Jewish girl Anne Frank is located on Prinsengracht. During the Second World War, Anne and her family went into hiding in Amsterdam. Since than, she became world famous for the diary she wrote during Second World War. Anne Frank and her family were hidden in the back of the house for more than two years. The hiding place was covered because it was specially made behind a bookcase. Several million editions of her diary have been published and the house was opened to visitors in the 1960s.
